Prep work

Wash the lentils. Drain and keep it aside.

Finely chop the onions, tomatoes.

Gather the spice powders and prep leafy veggies if using them.

Step 1

Start the Instant pot in saute mode and add oil, cumin, mustard, minced garlic, chopped ginger, slit green chili.

Step 2

Add finely chopped onions and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 3

Add the finely chopped tomatoes and spice powders. And let it cook for a couple of minutes.

Step 4

Add washed lentils, water and stir it well.

Step 5

Pressure cook the dal for 6 minutes on high pressure. Once the Instant pot finishes cooking, wait for 10 minutes and release the pressure.

Stir the dal once, and the delicious Instant pot dal is ready to serve with basmati rice, quinoa, millet, or naan bread.
