Prep work

Wash the lentils. Drain and keep it aside.

Finely chop the onions, tomatoes.

Wash, peel, and chop the potatoes into 1 to 1.5-inch cubes.

Step 1

Heat a thick-bottomed pot. Add oil, bay leaf, finely chopped garlic, ginger, onions, and saute them.

Step 2

Add finely chopped tomatoes and let them soften a bit.

Step 3

Add spice powders to the tomato mixture and mix it well.

Step 4

Add potato cubes, lentils and stir it well.

Step 5

Add water and cook the lentils over medium heat for around 35 minutes. Potatoes should be tender, and lentils should be cooked.

The hearty lentil potato soup is ready to serve!
