Ingredients

  • 2 raw bananas (large ones)
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • ¼ cup dry coconut powder
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 red chili
  • 1.5 tablespoon oil
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Corainder leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  • Peel the raw banana or aratikaya with a peeler and grate it. You need not remove the complete skin of the banana as the peel is more nutritious. Just peel the green layer on the top.
  • Slice the onions lengthwise and keep them ready.
  • Heat a pan and add oil to it.
  • Once it is hot, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, red chili, and green chili.
  • Once the seeds start spluttering, add sliced onion. Let them fry for a couple of minutes.
  • To this onion mixture, add grated raw banana, salt, coriander seeds powder, and turmeric powder.
  • Mix it well so that the grated raw banana is coated well with spices and onion mixture.
  • On a medium flame let it cook for 5 minutes. Scrape the bottom of the pan if it sticks. After 5 minutes, it will be like this.
  • Cook it for 4 to 5 more minutes and once the raw banana is cooked well, add grated coconut powder.
  • Mix it well and dish out the plantain curry. Serve it with hot rice or phulka or any Indian flatbread.
