  • ½ cup toor dal or arhar dal or tuvar dal (Pigeon peas lentils)
  • 1.5 cups water

How to cook toor dal in an Instant Pot

  • Wash the yellow lentils or toor dal, and add them to the instant pot inner pot.
  • Add water to the inner pot and close the lid.
  • Add water to the inner pot and close the lid.
  • Seal the vent and select the manual or pressure cook option. Cook it for 6 minutes on high pressure.
    If you soak the dal for 30 minutes, you can reduce the time to 5 minutes.
  • Once the Instant pot beeps, do a pressure release after 10 minutes.
  • Perfectly cooked toor dal or pigeon peas lentils is ready!

How to cook toor dal in a Pressure cooker

  • Add water to the pressure cooker.
  • Wash and drain the lentils. Add these lentils to a small bowl that can fit into the pressure cooker.
  • Add water to the lentils bowl and cover it with the lid.
  • Close the pressure cooker with its lid. Pressure cook it for four whistles on high flame. Then reduce the flame of the gas burner, and let it cook for one more whistle. Switch off the flame.
  • Let the pressure release naturally, and then check the dal for doneness.
