Avocado paratha is a soft, flavorful flatbread that adds a creamy twist to everyday Indian bread chapati. It's perfect for quick meals or lunch boxes, as the dough comes together in minutes and cooks fast.

The avocado not only adds flavor but also makes the parathas naturally soft, without the need for extra oil, making them ideal for pairing with your favorite curries or chutneys. Knead the dough gently with minimal water for smooth, pliable avocado parathas.

Why My Avocado Paratha Always Turns Out Perfect

Sravanthi Chanda standing in a rose garden, wearing a light green embroidered sweater and patterned black kurta, smiling softly with trees and flowers in the background.

The secret to this avocado paratha lies in mashing the avocado smoothly and mixing it directly into the flour before adding any water. This ensures the fat from the avocado coats the flour evenly, making the parathas stay soft for hours.

Minimal water is key here; add just enough to bind the dough. I also use this same method for other flavored parathas, like my zucchini paratha and spinach paratha.

The trick of combining the flavoring ingredient directly into the dough works across variations, ensuring a consistent texture and taste every single time.

    Happy Cooking!

    Detailed Steps

Here are the easy steps to make soft Indian avocado flatbread:

Step1: Mash the avocado until smooth in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add whole wheat flour, salt, and pepper powder.

Step 3: Mix gently with your fingers to coat the flour with the avocado. Gradually add water, only if needed, to knead into a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4: Divide the dough into equal portions.

Step 5: Roll each paratha into a circle using dry flour.

Step 6:Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat and add the rolled paratha.

Step 7: Cook the paratha on both sides until golden spots appear on the surface.

Step 8: Apply a little oil if desired. Serve warm.

    Serving Tips

Replace your regular Indian roti with this avocado paratha. Here are some of the ways we enjoy this paratha at home.

    • Serve with our favorite curries from my Indian vegetarian curry recipes.
    • Pair with fresh yogurt or raita for a cooling side.
    • Enjoy with any Indian chutney for a quick snack.
    • Extra parathas from breakfast can easily become lunch. I share how I turn them into easy chapati wraps using everyday fillings.

Soft and flavorful avocado parathas taste great with chutneys or curries. Take a look at my side dishes for Indian flatbread to find more delicious pairing ideas.

    Notes

    Tested Tips from My Kitchen
    • Always mash the avocado thoroughly to avoid lumps in the dough.
    • Use minimal water for kneading, as avocado adds natural moisture.
    • Resting the dough makes rolling easier, but it will become soggy if left to rest for an extended period.
    • If you plan to store the dough in the refrigerator, knead it with as little water as possible to prevent it from becoming too soft and sticky.
    • When preparing parathas from refrigerated dough, add more dry flour to adjust the dough consistency as needed.
    • Cook on medium heat for even browning without drying the paratha.
